Black Law is a plaintiff’s law firm in Houston, Texas that believes in the principle of ubi jus ibi remedium — there is no wrong without a remedy.

When a person is injured or sickened because of the actions of another, whether they are a private individual, small business, or giant corporation, they have a right to be compensated for their medical expenses, recovery time, lost income, and lost enjoyment of life. This is not because the responsible party necessarily deserves punishment but because it is only fair that no one should have to pay for the wrongs of another.

Benzene is a known carcinogen. It is widely used in the refining and chemical industries. It has been linked to numerous serious or fatal diseases including acute myelogenous or myeloid leukemia (AML), multiple myeloma (MM), aplastic anemia (AA), non-Hodgkins lymphoma (NHL), chronic lymphocytic leukemia (CLL), acute lymphoblastic leukemia (ALL), and myelodysplastic syndrome (MDS). Historically, benzene was used as an intentional ingredient in many consumer products, including paint strippers, penetrating oils, carburetor cleaners, and in certain chemicals used in the printing and tire industry. Benzene is present in all products derived from oil or coal.

Industrial workers are frequently exposed to benzene in the workplace. Plumbers, painters, and auto mechanics are also at the highest risk of exposure. It can either be breathed in or absorbed through the skin. The chemical is colorless or a pale yellow, and it’s sweet smell may easily go ignored or be masked by other smells, so workers often may not even know they have been exposed. Benzene-related cancers may not occur for years or even decades later and are often the result of cumulative exposure over time.

The effects of benzene exposure have been known for decades and successful lawsuits have been filed against the manufacturers of products containing benzene and the refineries and chemical plants where workers have been exposed. For over a decade, the lawyers at Black Law has been fighting for the rights of workers who have been exposed to benzene in the Houston, Texas area and throughout the nation. If you or a loved one has been diagnosed with a benzene-related disease, contact the firm today for a free consultation.
